2020 Mairuth Sarsfield Mentorship Program: Quebec Writers’ Federation

The Quebec Writers’ Federation’s Mairuth Sarsfield Mentorship Program for Underrepresented Writers is given to a writer who is Indigenous, Black, or a person of colour to help develop their craft under the guidance of an experienced and esteemed poet between January and May, with a concluding public reading in June.

As the inaugural recipient, I will work with Gillian Sze on a small collection of poems exploring Black femme artistic futurities and kinships across time through intertextual forms such as the glosa.

The mentorship is a component of the QWF’s Fresh Pages Initiative, a set of programming opportunities for BIPOC writers (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) who have experienced systemic racial and financial barriers within literary and publishing communities, including workshop scholarships and professionalization mentorships.
